CASE STUDY – COVER HOLDER BLOCKS  

Problem: This cover holder had suffered severe breakage. Almost to point of splitting in two.

Solution: The break was repaired and all critical surfaces were overlayed with weld to facilitate machining back to print specifications.

Key Benefits:

– Customer’s critical component was salvaged.

– Component was put back into service in a timely fashion

– The customer saved both money and time.

CASE STUDY – AXIAL ROLLS

Problem: Axial roll used for ring rolling operations has worn.

Solution: Using one of our sub-arc units worn out cones can be refurbished rather than replaced.

Key Benefits:

– Weld material used to reclaim the cone generally has better wear properties than the base material itself.

– Longer service life between repairs due to the enhanced wear properties of the working surface.

– Decreased down time and cost for the customer.

CASE STUDY – DIES

Problem: Dies worn out of tolerance and had developed cracks in impression.

Solution: Die impressions were skin-cut using carbon arc process and all cracks removed in preparation for flood welding. Dies were flooded to facilitate machining back to customer print specifications.

Key Benefits:

– Dies were repaired cheaper than they could be replaced and the repair was performed faster than replacement die steel could be purchased.

– Weld filler material exhibits wear characteristics equal to or greater than parent die material. Increased run time between sinks possible.

CASE STUDY – MAJOR FORGING COMPONENTS

Problem: Axial roll used for ring rolling operations has worn.

Problem: A damaged column for a Chambersburg 35,000# Hammer.

Solution: Damaged area was flood welded with a HRT-3000 welder. The operation was performed onsite and took only three days.

Key Benefits:

– Reclamation of component that would otherwise be scrapped.

– Cost effective repair and the customer’s downtime was minimized.
